WHAT IS DAXXIFY™?
Daxxify™ (daxibotulinumtoxinA-lanm) is an injectable neuromodulator that contains botulinum toxin as its main active ingredient, intended for reducing dynamic wrinkles. Daxxify™ works by disrupting the proper reception of nerve signals that trigger muscle contractions. This results in muscle relaxation, keeping skin smooth instead of bunched into folds when certain expressions are made. Thanks to the peptide exchange technology, results last for up to six months on average—and have even been known to last nine months. Unlike other neuromodulators, Daxxify™ does not contain human serum albumin or other animal-based ingredients.

WHAT CONDITIONS CAN DAXXIFY™ TREAT?
Daxxify™ is FDA-approved for reducing moderate to severe glabellar lines that are caused by facial muscle movements. The “glabella” is the area of skin that’s located on the forehead between the eyebrows and above the nose. Glabellar lines—sometimes called frown lines or worry lines—are vertical lines between the eyebrows. You’ll notice these wrinkles appear when you smile, frown, or otherwise move your face in a way that squeezes your forehead muscles inward as you furrow your brows.
It can also be used off label in all the areas other neuromodulators are used, including for treating forehead lines, crow’s feet next to the eyes, bunny lines on the nose, lip lines, dimpling on the chin, a downturned smile, teeth grinding, and more, as well as performing a lip flip.

WHAT WRINKLE TREATMENTS ARE AVAILABLE BEYOND DAXXIFY™ IN THE BOSTON AREA?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is considered by many to be the go-to treatment for dynamic wrinkles and has been the most well-known botulinum toxin injectable for years. Jeuveau™, Dysport®, and Xeomin® are other popular types of neuromodulators. All of these injectables work the same way: They contain botulinum toxin type A as their primary active ingredient, and they temporarily relax certain facial muscles for cosmetic effect. However, there are some subtle differences between all of the various wrinkle-relaxing cosmetic treatments, so some patients may prefer one over the other.
These other injectables all have a duration of three to four months on average and may be a better choice for someone who is trying wrinkle injections for the first time and wants to make sure they like the effects before committing to a longer-lasting option.
ARE THERE SIDE EFFECTS TO WATCH FOR FROM DAXXIFY™?
The side effects of this injectable are similar to those of BOTOX® and other neuromodulators. You may have some temporary mild swelling, redness, bruising, and tenderness. The Dr. Happe Medical Aesthetics team will explain more about any adverse effects to look out for and how to manage them.
WHAT COMPLEMENTS A DAXXIFY™ TREATMENT?
Daxxify™ is intended for dynamic wrinkles, but other types of treatments are designed for wrinkles that are caused by a loss of volume and elasticity as opposed to muscle activity. Dermal fillers are injected below the surface of the skin to add volume as a way of reducing wrinkles associated with other forms of skin damage, such as collagen loss, to achieve a more youthful appearance. Fillers can also add volume to flattened or hollow areas or augment certain facial features, such as the mid-face or lips, to improve facial symmetry and balance.
